Wow~~ did you see that, what a sight. This is called
Daguoye columnar basalt an excellent place for photography.
It was discovered by the Japanese when they were building
the harbor to improve the traffic condition between
Magong and Siyu
The columnar basalt was formed during a volcanic eruption.
As the cold seawater cools down the lava the hexagon
shape is formed. The columnar basalt can be push up
to over 10 meters. The view is spectacular when you
see sections and sections of these columnar basalts.
The Yellowstone Park in the United States of America
also has this kind of columnar basalts.,but funny
thing is that the ones in Penghu are yellow while
the ones in Yellowstone Park are black.
The geology of Penghu is Basalt Rocks, the viscosity
is small which makes it hard to build mountains. Therefore,
Penghu is a plateauwith interesting rock formations.
There aren��t any mountains or hills for shade and
protection,so they have to build a house for their
crops. Which makes this such an interesting sight.
Another interesting fact is that there are cactus
growing everywhere in Penghu, so remember not to wonder
around barefooted, you don��t want to step on it,it
will hurt you badly .
The Dutch introduced the cactus to Penghu in 1645.
They originally planted them by the beach for protection
against enemy landing. After several centuries, they
have blended nicely into Penghu��s lifestyle. They
have even become a crop for economic purposes.
A must eat in Penghu is Prickly pear ice, they say
the colder it gets the tastier it is.
Sourly sweet, very natural. But be careful don��t get
it stained on your shirt, it very difficult to wash.
To complete this amazing trip, stop by Kuebishan and
have a miracle experience. This will be an excellent
choice, but this place has a time limit.
At 3 in the afternoon the beach is filled with people
waiting to walk the Moses Parted Sea Trail. Yes, you
heard right you can be like Moses and walk between
the sea in just about 20 minute.
Miracle is just a buzz. This trail to Red Island will
immerge and flood low and high tide. This change in
scenery makes it a big tourist attraction.
Right now, is low tide,the sea trail showup�Abut it��s
too windy today, we are not allowed to cross the trail,well
so sad.
Penghu had the honor to be named the The Most Beautiful
Bays in the world in 2012. This wonderful chain of
islands is a place for you to come visit.
