When people started to migrate here, the sea is their bread and butter, which make the people here very religious to the sea god. Taiwanese people are very fond of Mazu, she is the only Sea Goddess. This temple is the one of the very first Mazu Temple. How ancient is Tianhou Temple? Nobody actually have an answer for that. There is already over 400 years of history since the reconstruction of 1592. There are two guardians of Mazu,This one is called Qianliyan,He has clairvoyance,His name is Shunfenger,He can hear the voice a long way off Penghu has forever been a place under the influence of military. There are traces of history spread out all over Penghu. This makes Penghu to be very distinctive. This 300 years old ancient village is called Erkan Village. It has been well preserved. What is special about this place is that everyone has the same last name, Chen. This is the one and only village in Taiwan where the whole village has the same last name.
