Kiwit
River Rafting
Today were on a rafting tour on the Siouguluan River
with some guys from the Amis tribe of Kiwit Village,
to get to know the Siouguluan River that they know
and live off of.
I guess if you get stuck sometimes, you wait until
your boat gets turned around by itself and you row
upstream.
We keep going left, and the reason is, Peter stops
rowing sometimes.
The main attraction is the scenery rather than the
actual rafting. The rafting is kind of just part of
the fun.
I think you caught onto that before I did.
What are we looking for?
Maifan stone.
It has pores, so when you heat it, it doesnt crack.
Here, grab some sand and put it in the water.
The sand is hot, so when it comes into contact with
cold water, it releases heat. Same thing goes for
the Maifan stones later.
Hot!
There we go, very nice. Thats a good noise to hear.
Youre the clever one, huh? Trying to get out. Lunch
is looking good.
I smell wood burning. Maybe theyre heating something
for lunch?
I hope so. Maybe its our shrimps.
These guys are really, really hot. We cant let it
just sit, otherwise itll burn a hole in this betelnut
bark (pot). In goes the salt, a little more.
You cant blame them for not wanting to go in.
Yeah, I know.
Time for lunch.
Mm.
Taste good?
Its good.
Ok, lets get going.
Ive been rafting quite a few times now. That was
probably the best rafting trip Ive ever had. It was
so much fun catching our own food, and then cooking
it. And I think I had a blast learning that sand actually
gets hotter once you put it in cool water. If I had
my physics class out here, I think I would have learned
something.
Yeah, I think it was really good. And I thought it
was very interesting that our guide, he brought his
daughters along with him to learn things as well.
And he said he would much rather have them out of
the classroom learning in the real world than stuck
in the classroom just like normal, so I thought that
wasvery interesting.
Fantastic.
