Alishan Wedding.
Exchanging vows in the presence of Alishan��s sacred
cypress trees hundreds of years old is becoming an
increasingly popular way to tie the knot. Mass weddings
have been held here every October in the past few
years.
In addition to exchanging vows, couples can also get
bridal photos taken here and even spend their honeymoon
in these mountains. While some prefer hotels, my friend
Axel and I have chosen to check out one of the more
interesting B&B��s. Today we��re pretending to be
newlyweds.
The one I used to do back in Morocco, (the bowl) was
deeper, more (room) for the rice. The problem with
that though, is that you have termites, usually. So
if you don��t mind a few smashed legs inside...
Wearing Tsou tribe outfits, we��re pounding glutinous
rice together with sweet potatoes. Plain or dipped
in brown sugar, these are traditional snacks that
are chewy, filling, fun to make and tasty to eat.

At this B&B, the owners are incredibly friendly.

Now you guys look it more than we do.
Do the Tsous go on honeymoons?
I don��t think we know how to. Our men are very introverted.
They usually don��t do anything romantic, but when
they actually do something, it��s a real big surprise.
Like us, we��ve been married for more than 20 years.
She told me that I am totally unromantic, that I��ve
haven��t given her even one rose. That 23 cafe shop
over there was my present to her on our 23rd anniversary.
She was really touched. So do we Tsous need honeymoons?
I don��t think so.
Different environments, beautiful places, interesting
people - these are all wonderful things about traveling.
We had a fantastic experience in Alishan this time
around, so I am definitely coming back again in the
not-so-distant future.
That was a lovely honeymoon we had.
Quite. Quite. It did goes as a surprise, though. The
lonely place back there, all made by A-jiang. They
were really, really welcoming. Very, very hospitable.
That really gets you back and going to the everyday
life.
