Nantou Hiking and Hot Springs
On most of our travelogues up to now, our hiking paths
have now been paved with either cement, wood or maybe
stone. This is pretty close to nature, as close as
you can get without being dangerous.
Without being dangerous. You can say that again. I
saw the sign you know.
What sign?
Oh nothing much, just the sign that says it��s crawling
with poisonous snakes, centipedes and wasps.
Poisonous snakes, centipedes and wasps. Are you serious?
That��s why the hat?
Poisonous snakes, wasps and centipedes? This is going
to be an adventure...
Huisun Forest has been around since 1920, during the
Japanese occupation. It was an experimental forest
belonging to Hokkaido Imperial University.
Covering almost 7000 hectares with a range of more
than 2000 meters in elevation, Huisun Forest is a
great place for nature lovers. There are five major
trails, and most of it is unpaved.
There are trails for the beginner hiker and there
are also some that require quite a bit of effort.
From heart attack inducing trails to easy breezy ones,
there��s something for everyone. Oh hey, look there
are hammocks as well. Oh, but there��s only one left.

Ah, this feels great. You can meditate, vegetate,
levitate, or even irritate your friend while you��re

We may have the oldest coffee trees in the country.
Seedlings from our trees are now being grown in nearby
places like Guoxing and Dongshan, Tainan.
Speaking of Guoxing Township, the odorless and colorless
sodium bicarbonate hot springs here are quite popular
as well.
Soaking in that naturally hot water, that��s just the
best, you know? A hike in the morning, a soak in the
evening, and a good night��s sleep.
