Hualien Whale Watching
Risso's dolphons coming
from the left.
You see them?
See? On the tip of the
wave on the left.
Right on the tip, they're
coming!
They've gone to the left
again, see them on the
tip?
On the tip, they're swimming
this way!
Michella
Jade Weng, Presenter:
Sorry, got a little
bit too excited and
forgot to say hi.
Welcome to Hualien!
Spring
to Autumn is whale
watching season, and
it's almost guaranteed
that you'll see whales
or dolphins on every
trip.
They're
not afraid of the
boats.
Ciou
Si-dong, Whale Watching
Operator:
Dolphins and whales
like to come to Hualien.
More than 26 kinds
of all sizes can be
spotted here. The
big ones include sperm
whales which weigh
50,000 kg, and there
are also small dolphins
weighing 70 to 80
kg.
What
an amazing morning!
And with half a day
to spare and Taroko
Gorge just a short
drive away, we're
going to take it slow
and do some easy hiking.
That's right, some
of the trails here
make for nice easy
walks.
Lin
Mao-yao, Guide:
During the Japanese
occupation, they wanted
to use Liwu River
to generate electricity,
and they needed a
long waterway to send
the water down. But
in the middle is Sakatang
River cutting it off,
so they decided to
build a pipe here.
During the construction,
they carved out this
trail.
Speaking
of the Japanese, I
hear our dinner tonight
is quite international.
Lei
Yi-zong, Chef:
We've prepared a Muslim
meal tonight. All
the ingredients are
Halal certfied. Muslims
don't eat foods that
are smoked, contain
alcohol or are intoxicants.
So our meal tonight
is very healthy and
light.
Halal
certified Japanese
food - mm, tasty.
Actually, anticipating
an increase in the
number of Muslim visitors,
more and more restaurants
in Hualien are starting
to serve Halal food.
Curious where Muslim
visitors go and what
they eat when they're
here? Come to Hualien
and find out for yourself!
